Portable Gamma Spectrometry for Radioactive Waste Characterisation and as a Health Physics Tool

18 November 2015

Rutherford

Well over 100 delegates attended the Portable Gamma event to hear presentations cover the science and practical aspects of gamma spectrometry analysis. We heard of the widespread application of gamma spectrometry from industrial applications as a simple pass/fail trigger, underpinned by good science, to more specialist analysis. Care has to be taken to determine what nuclides are being looked for, ascertaining acceptable finger prints and using results effectively. We heard how practical gamma spectrometry measurements in the field need careful planning and always to expect the unexpected.
