Practical ALARP

29 June 2017

Birmingham

On Thursday 29th June 2017, the Nuclear Sector Committee hosted a different type of event. The event took the form of a 'workshop' on Practical ALARP with 5 different speakers but a large part of the day was also allocated to group work on fictional scenarios. This meant that the attendees got to share ideas on practical ways to approach the scenarios and then provide some feedback to other groups.

The talks covered a wide range of topics - Magnox Pond Decommissioning, a Contractor's view of practical ALARP (Nuvia), Environmental safety case for LLWR, ALARP at Sellafield and the day was rounded off nicely with a presentation on practical ALARP from ONR. There was an opportunity after each presentation for questions which prompted some good points of challenge / clarification.

The day received good feedback from the participants who seemed to especially enjoy the scenarios, the opportunity for discussion with others they provided and the delicious barbecue lunch! Thanks to everyone who supported the event, especially the attendees who all got stuck in when it came to the scenarios.
