Presented by Dr Mark Hardy, Consultant Clinical Scientist (Clatterbridge ancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool), this webinar will discuss the radiation protection implications and possible solutions required following the resurgence of interest in ultra-high dose rate radiotherapy. It will give a background into the field and why FLASH is creating a buzz in radiotherapy, discuss what implications it has for patient, staff and public safety, and discuss what the radiation protection community can do to support this potentially ground-breaking new paradigm in radiotherapy.
Dr Mark Hardy is an honorary lecturer in Medical Physics at the University of Liverpool. Mark has 19 years’ experience in radiotherapy physics, and has worked as an RPA in medicine since 2011. He has recently completed a DClinSci (Doctor of Clinical Science) which included research on radiation protection for FLASH in proton therapy. He currently chairs the radiation protection advisor group at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and leads the Radiation Protection in Medicine module on the Medical Physics MSc at the University of Liverpool. He regularly works on designing new facilities in radiotherapy, which has included the Christie Proton Therapy Centre, as well as solutions for operational radiation protection for all modalities of radiotherapy.
