EMF, a different sort of radiation?

21 August 2025

Webinar, 12:00 - 13:00 (BST)

***** Joining instructions will be sent the day before this webinar is due to take place. *****

Presented by a Committee member from SRP's EMF and Optical Radiation Committee (you must be logged into MySRP to view this page).

Urban myths about 5G and other sources of EMF affect our risk perception, some don’t believe ‘the science’ regarding public exposure levels and this can spill over into occupational settings.  Whilst we’re wondering about exposure from our phones and WiFi routers, real hazards in the workplace can remain unidentified. On top of this, legislation is looser around EMF than it is for ionising radiation, with no RPA equivalent, so who is competent to deal with EMF issues?  Presented by Hugo Bibby (Link Microtek), topics in this webinar include, EMF risk perception, risk communication and risk assessments.

Presented by Hugo Bibby, CRadP (Link Microtek)

Hugo has been working with EMF for over 40 years. For the last 30 years he’s been working at Link Microtek making EMF measurements on anything across the frequency range DC to 100 GHz. His early career centred on high power amplifiers for defence radar systems but with his time at Link, he's been involved with various aerospace, broadcast, telecoms, industrial, scientific and medical projects. When not stuck behind a laptop, he spends his working day on rooftops or in factories peering at displays of electric and magnetic field strengths. He is a Chartered member of The Society for Radiological Protection.
