John Boice receives Sievert Award

The prestigious Sievert Medal has been awarded to John Boice who delivered the Sievert Lecture at the IRPA14 Opening Plenary. His presentation was entitled 'How to protect the public when you can't measure the risk' and the Medal was presented to him by Renate Czarwinski, President of IRPA. Dr Boice is President of the US National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) based in Bethesda, MD, and Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, TN. His work over many years in merging the disciplines of radiation physics, radiation biology, and human health effects has enhanced our scientific understanding and has influenced radiological protection guidelines and their implementation in the international arena. He is a member of the Main Commission of the International Commission on Radiological Protection and a US advisor to the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation.
