Hinkley Point C

Many members of The Society for Radiological Protection will welcome the news that the Government has now finally approved the construction of the Hinkley Point C nuclear reactors. Since the beginning of nuclear electricity generation, radiological protection scientists have played a pivotal role in the industry. Members of the Society for Radiological Protection have been, and continue to be, heavily involved in the design, operation and regulation of nuclear plants, dedicated to ensuring the safety of workers, the public and the environment.

Our learned society will continue to support and advance the knowledge of our members, who will now be bringing forward Hinkley Point C, through our chartered professional awards, scientific meetings, conferences and publications. We will also use our outreach programme to encourage a new generation of young people to consider careers in radiation protection and maybe take up jobs over the future decades in this important contribution to ensuring the UK’s supply of clean, low carbon, electricity
