Council Elections
News Story from 28th Nov 2013
Nominations are requested for two new Council Members as well as Honorary Treasurer. Please see the letter from Angela Wright, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, and the Electoral Form which should be returned to the SRP Admin Office by Friday 10th January 2014. Council meets 5 times per year, usually in London.
All Council Members are also Trustees of the Society and with this comes certain responsibilities which are summarised here.
"One of the great strengths of SRP is the broad spectrum of RP experience that it covers. It therefore gives all members the unique opportunity of learning first-hand of the experience of fellow professionals in other sectors. Being a member of Council will allow you to maximise this opportunity and help to shape the current key issues for our profession. I hope that you will seriously consider standing for Council."
Peter Marsden, UCL Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (President 2013/15)
Being a member of SRP Council has given me a broader understanding of RP issues and the potential solutions; it's also a great opportunity to network and occasionally have fun! Jennifer Humphries, Sellafield Ltd (Council Member 2012/15)
Trustee means a position of trust; for me it is about corporate decisions and once you have made your points the decision stands. Many issues have a lot of history so listen to those who know, take their advice but be prepared to challenge. Challenge is welcomed. Steve Griffiths, ONR (Council Member 2013/14)
I enjoy the diversity of expertise on Council. We always seem to be in good humour, so is that due to the biscuits or the personalities..? Paul Leonard, Corporate Risk Associates Ltd (Council Member 2013/16)
I started out on the Research and Teaching Sectorial Committee 10 years ago. Committee work is a great way to get involved with the business of the Society and in doing so to help the SRP and radiation protection generally. It can lead on to all sorts of roles and responsibilities - just look at me! Pete Cole, University of Liverpool (President-Elect)
Being on Council can be demanding, but it gives me the opportunity to spend time with interesting people from a variety of backgrounds, promoting and influencing the development of SRP and radiation protection in the UK. We have robust discussions but we also have fun – Dr Who themed chocolates at the last meeting, lovingly prepared by Tessa. What’s not to love?! Amber Bannon, Environment Agency (Honorary Secretary 2013/15)
