Member Receives Prestigious Laser Safety Award

The George M. Wilkening Award in Laser Safety, recognises exceptional contributions to laser bioeffects research, the development of human exposure limits, and applied laser safety. This year’s recipient is longstanding SRP member Professor John O’Hagan, who has dedicated over 46 years to advancing laser safety through his work as a public health scientist at UKHSA and its predecessor agencies before his retirement in 2022. John has been instrumental in developing practical guidance for managing laser safety across diverse industries, including industrial, medical, military, research and entertainment sectors. As Co-Chair of IEC TC76, he continues to play a pivotal role in shaping international laser safety standards. The photo above shows him being presented with the award at last month’s International Laser Safety Conference in Orlando. Many congratulations John!
