Scottish Events a Big Success
News Story from 21st Mar 2014
On Tuesday, the Scottish Regional Group hosted an event on Radioactive Waste Management and Transport in Aberdeen. The event was well attended and the delegates were treated to a range of speakers from regulators, policy makers and practitioners. Delegates were updated on existing Scottish legislative requirements, evolving legislation, and the current consultation on the long-term strategy for the management of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials. The day also had presentations on the practical aspects of radioactive waste management and transport in various sectors.
On Wednesday, a fully subscribed SRP training course focussing on Radioactive Source Security was also held in Aberdeen. The day began with an overview of the security threat, before the legislative regime was explained. Security requirements for differing levels of radiological hazard were highlighted from the CTSA perspective, and after a ‘security during transport’ interactive session, various practitioners gave excellent presentations on their experiences of implementing security measures. The day was rounded off with a short optional assessment on the course content, aimed at providing valuable RWA portfolio evidence for those making the grade!
