What is your name and role?

Martin Doran – MD.

How many people work in the organisation?

We have 20 dedicated and loyal workers within the organisation, many of whom are currently working safely from home.

Where are you based?

Our Head Office is based in Telford, Shropshire.

What does the organisation do?

We specialise in the manufacture of industrial chemicals and are renowned throughout the industry for our expert  problem solving. Some of our core products are dedicated to the nuclear sector, in particular, our Decommissioning Range including our hero product RADWIPES.  This range has helped to drive down decommission costs while reducing waste. We support our customer with our free on-site training Tool Box Talks.

When was the organisation started?

In 2013.

What was the first product the company sold?

A bespoke cleaning formulation to overcome an issue within the printing industry, called GREEN MAGIC.

What is the latest product?

ISOPURE BIODEGRADABLE.

Tell us about this

During this pandemic, we have seen a huge increase in the demand for our alcohol wipes - ISOPURE.  The industry standard for such wipes is 70 IPA (70% isopropyl alcohol) on a polypropylene wipe. This has led to an alarming increase in the use of single-use plastic.  We have therefore, developed our latest product ISOPURE BIODEGRADABLE which uses a non-plastic 100% biodegradable fabric.

Describe MDCO Ltd in three adjectives

Professional, innovative, collaborative.

Our mission is to provide outstanding products and service via close collaboration with our customers, to provide cost effective and innovative products whilst also protecting our environment.

The face to face interaction with industry professionals and like minded people. The presentations are always hugely informative and the camaraderie amongst fellow exhibitors is always excellent and great fun.

What's your most popular giveaway at conferences?

Without a doubt our flashing light bulb pens, loved by young and old alike!

The flashing pens come in other colours too!
What has been the most memorable SRP conference you have attended and why?

Scarborough 2019:The Art & Science of Radiation Protection.  We were inundated with enquires from both UK and International companies which resulted in many sites now benefiting from our products and services.  In addition, who does not enjoy time at the seaside!

Who might we meet on your stand?

You would meet myself and other members from our highly experienced and engaging team.

Do you support a particular charity?
We support many charities both home and abroad and in particular CAFOD, Telford Crisis Support, and the RNLI.  We also sponsor a room at Calderwood House which provides invaluable support to homeless people.
How has COVID-19 affected MDCO?

This pandemic has seen a huge increase in demand for our hygiene range of products.  Raw material shortages rapidly developed within the supply chain, leading to unprecedented price increases as demand outstripped supply.  We are proud to have been able to adapt to this quickly, continuing to deliver to,and support, our customers.

Why are you an Affiliated Organisation?

SRP is at the centre of our core business within the nuclear sector and our work with NDA organisations. The support the Society offers to all the membership is excellent indeed.

Do you have any funny work stories?

Recently, several staff working extra hours started to complain of feeling unwell with headaches and there was of course, concern that Covid-19 had reached our offices. After investigation, the root cause was discovered…

What's the best thing about working at MDCO?

That there's never a dull moment – and working with such a fantastic team.

But in the meantime, here is a clue to ponder!
