New President-Elect Announced
News Story from 10th Feb 2016
We are pleased to announce that, following the recent invitation for nominations for Council Officers, Amber Bannon will become President-Elect at the 2016 AGM, becoming President at the 2017 AGM.
Amber joined ICI in 1988 as a research and development chemist, eventually becoming an environmental development chemist advising on regulatory compliance and improving performance by liaising with regulators. She joined the Environment Agency in 2000, working as a Regulatory Officer for radioactive substances regulation, before becoming a Technical Specialist for radioactive substances regulation in 2009. Amber has worked exceptionally hard for SRP since she joined in 2007, becoming a Council Member in 2011, then Honorary Secretary in 2013. As such she has a huge amount of SRP experience and gained a thorough understanding of SRP business. She is an active member of the Strategic Planning Committee and Outreach Committee, and is keen to promote and capture members’ expertise and raise the profile of the Society. She is focused on providing members with key guidance documents and organising meetings to address the practical issues that radiation protection professionals face every day. She is keen to continue to promote careers in science, and radiation protection in particular, and strongly supports SRP’s ongoing commitment to its Outreach programme. Amber would like to continue to help steer and develop the Society, ensuring a robust governance system is implemented, enabling SRP to meet its members’ needs and fulfil its legal obligations as a charity. She would like to see SRP membership cover all levels of professionals within the radiation protection field and for SRP to support their development. She would like SRP to be instantly recognisable, domestically and internationally, as an authority on radiation protection issues.
