ICRP Main Commission Meeting
News Story from 6th Jun 2016
The ICRP Main Commission held a four day meeting in Cape Town immediately following IRPA14.
Two new Committee Chairs were welcomed: Werner Rühm for Committee 1, replacing Bill Morgan who sadly died in November 2015, and Kathryn Higley for Committee5. Former C5 Chair, Carl-Magnus Larsson continues to serve as a member of the Main Commission.
New Task Groups were approved on: (1) the calculation of stochastic detriment, (2) protection in radiopharmaceutical therapy, and (3) development of reference computational phantoms, in which radiation transport calculations are performed without voxelisation, improving resolution.
A number of reports were approved for publication or public consultation prior to publication, and strategic discussion were held on the system of protection and ICRP committee structure. There was agreement that stability is important but that clarification is needed in specific areas, including the specification of exposure situations and associated dose criteria. The needs for individual protection of patients was discussed.
The next meeting of ICRP Committee 2 on dosimetry, chaired by John Harrison (FSRP), will be held in Oxford in September 2016 with Radiation Protection Week 2016 .
The next meeting of the ICRP Main Commission will be held in China (24-28th October 2016) after which a call will be issues for nominations for Committee membership for the next term, from 1st July 2017 to 30th June 2021.
