The Scottish Committee held its annual one-day scientific meeting in Glasgow recently and over 100 people attended.  The topic was ‘Getting it right when things go wrong’ with presentations on lessons learned from the disposal of waste from a radioactive cat, the movement of a WWII unexploded bomb past a nuclear site, an incident in a medical PET facility, the Litvinenko polonium incident and an exercise involving the management of a contaminated casualty with live play and transfer to hospital for medical treatment.  The delegates also learnt about Radiation Monitoring Units for potentially contaminated people following a radiation incident, the government’s work on preparations for recovery and the psychosocial impact in the aftermath of an emergency, as well as transport emergency planning and the legislative framework for emergency preparedness and response.  Angela Wright, Chair of the Scottish Committee, said; "Overall it was a very interesting and informative day and a great opportunity for networking.  Thanks to all the presenters, session chairs, Scottish Committee members as well as Harris Associates for making it such a successful event."
