To mark IRPA's 50th year SRP presented the gift of a Presidential Medal at last night's Gala Banquet in Cape Town. The Medal was presented to Renate Czarwinski by SRP President Pete Cole. Earlier in the day SRP Honorary Fellow Geoff Webb gave a plenary presentation on the history of IRPA. See more details here. Roger Coates was confirmed as IRPA President for 2016-2020 at the IRPA General Assembly yesterday afternoon. Eduardo Gallego has been appointed Vice President and, following voting by the official Associate Society delegations, the three new members of the Executive Council are Marie Claire Cantone, Klaus Henrichs and Hiroko Yoshida.

The location of IRPA15 in 2020 will be Seoul in the Republic of Korea. This was decided in 2012 (at IRPA13 in Glasgow) and, at the IRPA14 General Assembly this week, official IRPA Associate Society delegations have voted for the location of IRPA16 in 2024 to be Orlando, Florida. Congratulations to the US Health Physics Society who submitted the winning bid.

The International Radiation Protection Association Congress, held every four years, is taking place this week in Cape Town. This will be the 14th Congress but It is the first time that it has been held on the African continent. Over 900 delegates from 72 countries are attending IRPA14 which will also include celebrations of the 50 year anniversary of the establishment of IRPA.
